DokfestForum

In 2010, the DokfestForum was initiated together with the Fridericianum. With presentations, artist talks and screenings that explore the intersection of film and art, the DokfestForum extends the range of the festival towards a discourse on the visual arts. This year, the DokfestForum is realized in close cooperation with the documenta chair at the School of Art and Design Kassel as well as the documenta archiv.
The focus of the three evening events is on archives as document versus documentary and records versus action and update. At the intersection of past, present and future, they will be about archives as a material repository and ‘quarry’ for the individual artist (Bjørn Melhus – Jagen und Sammeln) and as place of storage and research on artistic and academic positions (Harun Farocki Institut) in the conflict between historicisation and contemporaneity (Knut Ebeling). All presentations, but the documenta Institute Discourse #6 in particular, will deal with the issue of how and whether archives can capture and harness the opposing forces of the transience, cultivation and preservation of artistic processes.
