Adele Kohout/ DOK.fest München
Beyond the screen DOK.fest München

Like many cultural institutions, DOK.fest München 2020 had to react on the restrictions resulting from the corona pandemic for its 35th edition. The lockdown made a regular festival in the cinemas impossible. But we managed to present the program online as DOK.fest München @home. We hope to return to events on location, but difficult times sometimes require new paths. The festival has arrived in the digital age and will use the valuable experience from this edition in all areas for its further evolution.

Adele Kohout is deputy management and a member of the program selection committee of DOK.fest München. She studied modern history and art history with a focus on film in Düsseldorf and Zurich, as well as cultural history and cultural management in Ludwigsburg. Among other, she was an assistant director for Czech television and managing director of the Kunstareal München. Adele Kohout has been working for DOK.fest München since 2008.

Csongor Dobrotka / die Seriale
How is a Virtual Event created?

As one of the first festivals, die Seriale had to change its event format in 2020, due to the effects of the corona pandemic. Instead of the usual physical form, an extensive, internationally oriented Virtual Event was created. In the lecture, festival director Csongor Dobrotka will present the special challenges and potential of a Virtual Event and address the possibilities for digital content, such as the online market and special VOD platforms.

Csongor Dobrotka is founder and festival director of Die Seriale, Germany's first festival for digital series. He is a director, screenwriter, and producer, and studied Drama, Theatre & Media at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies at JLU Giessen. Since 2009 he has also been working for the Hessian Film and Media Academy (hFMA) and founded the production company DOBAGO FILM in 2011, which now specializes in the production of digital series, like NUMBER OF SILENCE and LOTTE HAUS.

Brenda Lien/ Filmemaker
Mein Kurzfilm zwischen on- und offline Auswertung

Business Talk at festivals tends to suffocate thematical discussions about films. I´ve received the most interesting feedback at screenings with non-film-business audiences and in the comment sections of streaming platforms: here films are discussed as artworks rather than products. My views on online-distribution has changed over the last years and in this talk I´ll speak about the thoughts I have regarding my next film´s on- and offline distribution. I´ll also share my experience with short film-distributors and TV stations.

Brenda Lien works as an independent filmmaker and composer. Her films were screened at renowned festivals worldwide (Berlinale Shorts, ISFF Oberhausen, Aspen Shortfest), on TV (Arte, Canal+, Channel 4) and on streaming plattforms (Kanopy, Criterion Collection). Her film “Call of Comfort” won the German Short Film Award 2018. Her graduation film “First Work, Then Play” will be released early in 2021.
