Letter to My Mother

A film that addresses and a film that shows a processing through media: a fearless and strong autobiographical examination. The filmmaker survived sexual abuse by a relative in his childhood. During that time he and his mother were working as non-actors on a film where they played themselves. The film depicted the desires of a child, it narrated about an ambitious young mother and the relationship to her son. LETTER TO MY MOTHER is Amin Mahers own film, addressing his mother. How is it possible to deal with the past? LETTER TO MY MOTHER chooses a radically intimate perspective. It is an examination that touches upon the center of the pain and that dares to look precisely. It finds exact scenes for despair and cruelty and searches openly for ways of coping.… >>>

Nou voix

An autobiographic film that describes a piece of film history and makes voices heard that are not in the film itself. How does the film fit into the colonial history of the country? What does it tell, and on what memories is it based? Father and son investigate these questions in microscopically small, detailed analyses, butting in, re-writing and intervening in powerful policies of remembering.… >>>

Besides the state regulated program, she is especially interested in copied and passed-down formats. Western icons are passed on to this separate market, making offers of identification; not in the cinema, but in private rooms.… >>>

ma nouevelle vie européenne

This is a second film. With his first film, director Abou Bakar Sidibé received a lot of attention and was an award winner at the Berlin film festival Berlinale. It was about his escape to Europe. Now it is real life; now it is the film after the film. Life has a lot more standstill, bureaucracy, lack of perspective. He is appointed to German housing in an area where there is nothing to do. The time passes while he waits. He documents further; no longer the grand story, but the cruelty of the reality he is surrounded by and in which he isn’t allowed to stay.… >>>
