The junges dokfest: A38-Production Grant Kassel-Halle tries to establish ties with a young audience. The selection committees of the 39th Kassel Dokfest have nominated 21 works from the festival program – primarily from the section junges dokfest. In addition, the award jury includes three young people who will judge whether the film in question appeals to a young audience. The goal of the scholarship is to promote young artistic film and media talents, as well as making documentary film more accessible to a young audience.
The scholarship/grant is awarded by the long-term cooperation partners of the Kassel Dokfest, Werkleitz – Center for Media Art, the Media Authority of Saxony Anhalt (MSA) and the Regulatory Authority for Commercial Broadcasting in Hesse (LPR). The four "mentors" stand for the promotion of cultural cinematic works, for media art as well as for teaching media literacy. The scholarship, which lasts approximately two months, is endowed with up to 4,000 € in subsistence and travel expenses. The award winner will also receive up to 4,000 € in the form of state-of-the-art HD production equipment, as well as technical support and logistical advice for the production of an audiovisual work at Werkleitz – Center for Media Art. The scholarship holder is free to choose the topic of the work, whereby the new filmic work should interest and inspire a young audience in particular. In the best case, the work can also be used for artistic and media educational work with adolescents.

Jury 2022
Emerson Culurgioni studied art and design at the FU Bolzano and at the HGB Leipzig. The critical and interdisciplinary examination of social issues is at the center of his artistic practice. He is co-founder of the artistic collective “Filmische Initiative Leipzig” and participated in the Professional Media Masterclass for artistic documentary film at the Werkleitzgesellschaft in Halle. The resulting films “Leuna” and “Habitat” were shown internationally. Since the beginning of 2018, he has been working on the experimental documentary “La Duna”.
Sebastian Mulder explores the relationships between humans and other nature, and the influence of technology on these relationships with his award winning films. He graduated at the University of Arts in Utrecht with his film “Nature: All Rights Reserved (2016)”. In 2021, “NAYA - Der Wald hat tausend Augen” premiered at Hot Docs and won the A38-Produktions-Stipendium at Kasseler Dokfest. Additionally, Sebastian teaches at photography museum FOAM and Filmmuseum Eye in Amsterdam, conducting film and photography workshops and tours. He also is active as a Guest Teacher at the University of Arts in Utrecht.
Christian Klisan studied Culture- and Media Education in Merseburg, Saxony. After graduating in 2005 he worked as a freelance media educator and in film for German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Federal Agency for Civic Education. Since 2007 he works for the Media Authority of Saxony Anhalt (MSA) organizing the project “Medienmobil”.
Armin Ruda studied Political Science, English and Public Law and worked as a journalist, managing director and senior editor at the commercial local TV station INTV. In 1997 he took over the management of the public access TV channel in Kassel. He is currently chairman of the Federal Association of Citizens Media BVBM and has been member of the jury for the German Citizens Media Award as well as for several film festivals. He teaches the practical seminar "Basics of Video Journalism" at the University of Kassel.
Lisa Haidari is 18 years old and attends the 13th grade at Herderschule in Kassel. She spends a lot of time with painting and the secant collective. Regarding films, she is especially interested in their analysis.
Justina Koukal loves to let documentary films take her to the most beautiful places in the world and immerse herself in other cultures and traditions, educate herself and take different perspectives.
Lena Landwehr is 18 years old and attends the 13th grade at Jacob Grimm School in Kassel. Art has always been her passion and, in addition to painting and architecture, she is also interested in films. She is fascinated by the way films are made and how they are created, from the initial idea to their final realization. She is also fascinated by the fact that in the end every viewer gets a completely subjective impression of the film.
