Dokfest-Brunch + Matinée

„Travelling broadens the mind“, but mainly it's about longing for something new, curiosity, nostalgia, and sometimes even about overcoming constraints. These 6 films take us to tourists in Vienna, a man and his selfmade-dream of flying in Russia, we travel to a sport that's nearly forgotten in Switzerland, move on to rediscovered things in Ireland, a strange language in the Canary Islands and from there to music overcoming borders in France.

Stayer

Stayer

"Stayer" bicycle races were big events up to the Eighties. The cyclists and their pacesetters on heavy motorcycles were popular stars. Today only half a dozen teams remain. They regularly compete on the banked curves of the century-old racetrack in Zurich-Oerlikon. They are perhaps the last of their kind.

Irish Folk Furniture

Irish Folk Furniture

In rural Ireland old hand painted furniture is often associated with hard times, with poverty and with a time many would rather forget. Because of this association much of the country's furniture heritage lies rotting in barns and sheds. In the making of this film 16 pieces of abandoned folk furniture were restored and returned back into daily use. Most of the furniture items in this film have a long and varied life with a local family.
