junges Dokfest: Master Plan

What can a master plan for life look like? And: will the plan stop at ideas and well-meant resolutions, or will it be put in to concrete action? What goals are the protagonists following with their life planning? And how do their actions affect their social environment? Both filmmakers paint fascinating portraits of headstrong characters, not least through their treatment of parent-child relationships. The protagonists under the heading Masterplan represent clear viewpoints on personal and societal matters and also provoke questions about our own ideas and conceptions of life as a result.

Dying not planned for

Dying not planned for

Filmmaker Matthias Stoll's father was not the type who is supposed to die. And definitely not so suddenly. He was a robust man of action his whole life, always on the move with his pragmatic mind, whether on a bike ride or at work or building his own house that never seemed to be finished, maybe was never supposed to be. Maybe the way to paradise is already paradise itself, that seemed to be his motto. A melancholy farewell in the form of a humorous essay: age-old memories are given new life through animation and artfully interwoven with documentary recordings from the family's history.

Mensch Gottfried - Ein Aussteiger in Deutschland

Mensch Gottfried - Ein Aussteiger in Deutschland

Gottfried lives on a farm in Lower Saxony. The 57-year-old is completely self-reliant, like his forefathers centuries ago. He lives the way that he considers natural and is proud that he manages to survive in a functioning closed system - with no more than three liters of wastewater per day. This all comes at a price though and creates conflict. His sons admire his lifestyle, even though they choose to live differently.
