What We Leave Behind

What We Leave Behind

Juratė and Vilma, two young sisters from Lithuania get to know about their German grandmother’s love story that led her to radical choices and changed her life. In 1945, Ella left her fleeing family behind and turned back to Lithuania to meet the Lithuanian man she was supposed to marry. He disappears; she stays, marries another man and starts a family. The two sisters start their own investigation in order to trace back the man, in belief that reconnecting them will fulfill Ella’s dream even if in a symbolic way. At the same time this helps them clarify questions about their own identity. However, some unpleasant sides in the history of the family will come to light that would be better off buried in oblivion.
