They Call It Reality

Großes BALi, 12:00 h

The world around us is full of projections, which layer reality like a double exposure. Perceptions of our own lives, ideas of the other and imaginations of distant places shape what we call reality. But to be able to see things from a different perspective creates new chances and opens new spaces for playful interventions. The films in this program take us to places near and far, question pre-existing conceptions and allows us to watch the world a little different.

Approaching Truckdrivers

Approaching Truckdrivers

A German student studies abroad in Pakistan. He decides to shoot a film about the over-stuffed trucks, that fearlessly drive next to the cliff edges in a sparse mountain region. Two drivers offer him a lift on their three-day journey and invite him into their little cabin, the only private space in their mobile home. They talk about the hard work, their hopes and dreams, about religion and destiny, as they pass by the stunning scenery and on occasion, a colleagues truck, crashed down the slope.

D.O.M.

D.O.M.

The title D.O.M. is a pun on the polish word 'dom’ meaning 'home’ and on the acronym of two latin sentences that honor god and ghosts. Video artist Anna Pichura captures these themes, showing the loneliness of the countryside while searching for traces of past and present inhabitants, that remain unseen and underlining them with ludic religious symbols.
