Pre-Crime
PRE-CRIME takes us on a journey to dystopia, where science fiction meets reality. The focus lays on the controversial practice of “preventive policing”, a mixture of al-gorithm-based generation of criminal profiles and police investigation. Crime is sup-posedly prevented by probability calculations before it even happens. The price for this is kept vague; justification efforts follow the choice-engineering approach of praising benefits (safety) in order to downplay risks (compromising civil rights). PRE-CRIME addresses questions of data use and transparency. And most importantly, questions of liability and compatibility of potentially suppressive systems in a demo-cratic society. Matthias Heeder (Director) will be present for Q&A.
