Manipulation 18.05.

Manipulation 18.05.

This is what is coined as "fake news" in the media today. On May 18, 1980, a democracy movement against dictatorship occurred in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. Although the democratization movement failed, it had an important influence on the democracy of the Republic of Korea. Certain hyper conservative politicians and extreme right-wingers today claim that the resistance was initiated by North Korean Socialists. In order to seek and gain their own interests they would use ideological confrontation to manipulate history itself. If we watch this video with sincerity and care, we will be able to notice the truth contained in it.

Daily Notes

Daily Notes

Eurocentrism can not only be found in depictions of maps but also in historical discourses. Eurocentric history draws a linear, European history, starting in Greece, continuing with the Roman empire and ending with European and American metropoles. History is seen as a sequence of empires. In all cases, Europe stands as the only driving force for progressive and historical development. Manthia Diawara wrote that we need to enter into a state of world and mind that was less prone to discovery and conquest, and to espouse a philosophy of relation that looked at our differences not as that which divide us, but which link us individually and collectively in the greater good.

The Fifth Planet_a Lamplighter

The Fifth Planet_a Lamplighter

‚The Lamplighter‘ by Carlo Domenico is played on a transverse flute, this piece was composed for ‚The Little Prince‘. The viewer only sees the inside of the flute though, hearing the keys clicking but the expected music is not produced by the player. The video is focused on the space that produces sound and not the sound itself, the visible space becomes its own tonal range. This is where the borders of space blur and the video opens up for new interpretations of what the space of sound might be. The audibility of sound becomes a threshold within the transverse flute.

Manifest

Manifest

The film MANIFEST is the outcome of the various struggles as a freshman student of fine arts at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, in particular the unlimited formal opportunities and the high pressure to create something unique with significance. In the todays society with its surplus production, compulsive stimulation and lack of appropriateness, the question of legitimacy for art production become more and more prominent. The absurd conclusion in this film is a proposal to give up any art production itself.
