Some Things Are Hard To Talk About
SOME THINGS ARE HARD TO TALK ABOUT is a personal documentary about the secrets of abortions in my family. Some years ago I had an unwanted pregnancy. It was the moment that drew me deep into my family history. I found out, that over the last three generations there were four abortions in my family, which had been secrets. When my grandmother had an abortion in the 1950s in Germany, abortion was illegal. My mother’s generation fought for women’s rights in the 70s causing the legalisation of abortion in Germany. Today, it is legalised. However, nobody talks about their abortion easily. Why?
