Taste of Cement
At a high rise construction site in Beirut, Syrian workers live and work day in, day out. They never leave the lot, as the lebanese government has enforced a dusk to dawn curfew for refugees. During the day they rebuild Beirut, level after level, high above the city. At Night they lie on makeshift beds in the unfinished basement, watching news of the continuous warzone at home in Syria on a small portable TV. In his filmessay TASTE OF CEMENT, Ziad Khaltoum finds striking poetic images for the hardships, sorrows and dreams of a war-torn existence in exile.
