Totem and Taboo

Großes BALi, 00:00 h

A midnight extravaganza that dives right into the colourful world of Freudian depths: Starting off on the therapist’s couch, we visit childhood trauma and digress into wild fantasies involving animals and violence; intimate moments on the parents’ sofa lead to velvety images of fetish, fur and horse bottoms. And finally, a swan song to mythical Oedipus himself, in the shape of a psychedelic DIY musical infused with a solid critique of capitalism.

Thievery and Songs

Thievery and Songs

In THIEVERY AND SONGS, the narrator lies down on the therapist’s couch – a very uncomfortable, leathery model, unfortunately – and in his charming Austrian dialect leads us through the depths of his psyche: from family stories that were passed on to him, the era of Nazi Germany, and his own childhood memories, he lets his mind wander to spectacular dreams involving animals and transformations. All of this is accompanied by a wild collage of various materials – super 8 film, video, watercolour and other drawings, clay animation and photographs – to complement the absurd, poetic and tragicomical tones of his account.

Call of Cuteness

Call of Cuteness

Whilst we remain safe and sound, watching the highest grossing cat fail compilation, all that is kept out of sight gets back to us in this consumerist nightmare. On a global playground, without bounds, the cat’s body is devoured, exploited and controlled - its fear of pain being stronger than the longing for freedom. Objects are fetishized and subjects made into things that are quantifiable and ready for use. They are the natural resources of a luxury they will never know. We are here because you were there - and waste is dumped in the ocean. In the end, bodies reveal the causes and effects of power, pleasure and hate.

Amateur, Kackateur, Fukator

Amateur, Kackateur, Fukator

The AMATEUR, KACKATEUR, FUKATOR sits on his mother’s couch and caresses the cushions. A video piece charged with a strange tension: spontaneous shots of domestic intimacy are combined with staged, surreal moments; motherhood, sexuality, domesticity, poetry, modernity, tradition, and convention converge and cause friction. Kinetic friction is converted into warmth.

Pferdebusen

Pferdebusen

Based on Arthur Schnitzler´s Dream Story, HORSE BOOBS is the fifth part of a series in which Katrina Daschner creates scenarios of queer desire to deconstruct the conventional middle class setting of the novel. "Five protagonists move through a vagina dentata and thus begins the unfolding of a sexually compact visual dramaturgy in which human body and horse body meld in a beautiful and peculiar way: naked bottoms on saddles, leather masks hiding faces, horse anus and the bat of an eye. Wonderfully confusing, beguiling visual worlds are drafted in close-ups deployed like a fetish. The point of culmination of every take is desire and fantasy; the gaze´s object and subject become one." (Christiane Erharter)

Acropolis Bye Bye

Acropolis Bye Bye

Focusing on the Greek crisis, ACROPOLIS BYE BYE appears as a melancholic dream. Oneiric forces hijack collective history and we see the birth of a new Œdipus who no longer wants to become ruler of a kingdom destined to disappear, eroded by gimmickry and run by tulip fanatics. The film sets out to rewrite a Greek myth, Œdipus, and connects it to another myth — this one economic — from 17th century Holland: a myth that created a speculative crisis within the tulip market and devastated men’s hearts and their cities. ACROPOLIS BYE BYE is a doomed love story with a flavour of frozen moussaka.
